Privacy Policy

Telo Lab connects what you eat to how you recover. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what data the app touches, where it goes, and the control you have over it.
The short version
Almost everything stays on your phone. Telo Lab has no accounts and no servers holding your data. The only thing that ever leaves your device is a meal photo you choose to scan — sent to Google's Gemini service to identify the food. Apple Health data is read-only and never leaves your device. We don't sell your data, run ads, or track you across other apps.
Who is responsible
Telo Lab ("the app", "we", "us") is an independent app operated by Vitali Grigorjev. This policy applies to the Telo Lab app for iPhone, distributed through Apple TestFlight and the App Store. Using the app means you agree to the practices described here.
Data the app uses
Telo Lab is designed to collect as little as possible. Here is everything it touches:
- Meal photos you scan — captured with the camera or chosen from your photo library. When you scan, the image is sent to Google's Gemini API to identify the food and estimate calories and macros. We keep no copy on a server; if you save the result, the photo and its nutrition data are stored only in your on-device food log.
- Apple Health data (read-only) — with your explicit permission, the app reads: steps, active energy, resting energy, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability (HRV), VO₂ max, water intake, body weight, height, date of birth, biological sex, and sleep. This is used on your device to estimate calories burned and tune your daily targets. It is never written back and never leaves your phone.
- Your food log, profile, and goals — meals, portions, weight, and the targets you set. Stored locally on your device.
- Basic diagnostics — if you opt in through iOS settings, Apple may share standard, aggregated crash and performance reports to help us fix bugs. These are not tied to your identity.
What we do not collect
- No account, login, email, or password.
- No name, contacts, or location.
- No advertising identifiers, and no tracking of you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data — ever.
Apple Health — our commitment
Health and fitness data is sensitive, so we hold ourselves to a strict standard:
- Read-only. The app only reads from Apple Health and never writes to it.
- Stays on device. Your Health data is used locally to calculate your stats and is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
- Never monetized. Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, and is never sold or shared.
- You're in control. Revoke access anytime in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Telo Lab, or in the Health app under Sharing → Apps.
Meal photos & AI analysis
Food recognition is powered by Google's Gemini API. When — and only when — you actively scan a meal, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to Google to identify the food and estimate its nutrition. This is the single piece of data that leaves your device.
Google processes the image under its own terms; see the Google Privacy Policy. We operate no backend of our own, so we never retain a copy of your photo on a server. If you'd rather not have a photo analyzed, you can skip scanning and add foods manually.
How your data is used
- To identify food in your photo and estimate calories and macros.
- To show your daily calories, macronutrients, and recovery metrics.
- To compute personalized targets from your Health data and the goals you set.
- To diagnose crashes and improve reliability (only if you've opted into Apple's sharing).
We do not build advertising profiles, score you, or resell any of this.
Storage, retention & deletion
Your food log, profile, and settings live on your device. Because we keep no central database, deleting the app removes your data from our reach entirely. Apple Health permissions are managed by iOS, not stored by us — revoking access in Settings stops all reading immediately.
Security
All network requests, including photo scans, use TLS/HTTPS encryption in transit. On-device data is protected by Apple's app sandbox and device-level encryption. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but keeping data on your device and running no central server meaningfully reduces the risk.
Children's privacy
Telo Lab is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old to use the app. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has used the app, contact us and we will help remove any associated data.
International data transfers
When you scan a meal, the photo is processed by Google on its global infrastructure, which may include servers in the United States or other countries whose data-protection laws differ from your own. By choosing to scan, you consent to this transfer. All other data remains on your device in your own region.
Your rights & choices
- Revoke camera, photo library, or Apple Health access at any time in iOS Settings.
- Avoid AI analysis entirely by entering foods manually instead of scanning.
- Delete all of your data by removing the app from your device.
- Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Because we hold almost nothing server-side, your data is already in your control on-device — but you can contact us with any request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and surface material changes in the app where appropriate. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
